It’s back to school today for most kids, and a great time to talk about some important points regarding backpacks. Here’s a brief video featuring my own daughters as I explain a few quick tips:
-Choose a pack that has wide, padded shoulder straps and ideally, a waist belt as well.
-Carry the bag with BOTH straps.
-Pack heavier objects close to the back.
With the increasing amount of ‘stuff’ that kids need to carry, it’s easy to overdo it and make the load too heavy for the child. Here are some signs that your child’s pack is too heavy:
-Your child must lean forward to maintain balance.
-Your child has read marks or creases on shoulders after carrying the pack.
-Complaints of headaches, back and neck pain.
-Numbness or tingling in arms or hands.
Keep the backpack as light as possible and help your child have a pain-free start to the school year!
