How I saved my shoulder!

I opened my clinic in November 2003, and only a few months later, I started to have problems with pain.  Being a chiropractor is quite a physical job, and I developed a repetitive strain injury in my shoulder.  Over the next year or so, I began to feel the pain more often and more severely. It got to the point that if I tried to reach backwards with my arm, my shoulder would lose strength and completely give out.  Additionally, the very act of adjusting patients was painful enough that I had to modify my technique to avoid it. This was not a great situation for me to be in!

Around this time, I was reminded of laser therapy that I had learned  about in school, and had used briefly in my internship at the teaching clinic in Toronto.  So, I sought out a Canadian company called MedX, and tested their laser therapy unit to decide if I wanted to purchase it for my clinic.  I could think of no better guinea pig than myself.  I followed the recommendations and delivered 6 treatments within about a two week period to my own shoulder.  I have to say, I was astounded at the results!  In that short period of time, the injury which had been plaguing me for over a year was suddenly gone!  Movements were now pain-free, and I was able to return to my original adjusting techniques.  Needless to say, I purchased the unit and began using it to help as many people as I could.

Laser therapy works extremely well for soft tissue injuries such as damaged ligaments or tendons, or areas throughout the spine that have not responded to other treatments.  I’ve also had tremendous success with relieving the pain and stiffness in arthritic knees.  Laser therapy, as the name implies, uses light energy to penetrate into the body tissues and stimulate healing at the cellular level.  Laser is safe, effective, and affordable.  (Sound too good to be true?  Don’t just take my word for it, we have a whole binder full of comments from satisfied patients at the clinic for you to read!)  You can learn more about laser therapy here , or you can call or come in and I would be happy to tell you more.

Oh, and by the way… It’s been more than five years since I treated my shoulder, and it’s still going strong with no relapses, and I haven’t had to do any more treatments on it!
